Become a MySpace Rockstar!
Ok. So I went ahead and bought the MySpace Friend Blaster Pro software I was talking about in my previous post. I did quite a bit of research into MySpace and why you should or shouldn't use it.
First of all I jotted down some points of interest:

Advantages
|
Disadvantages
|
I made the decision that this was worth pursuing, the pros clearly outweighed the cons. One tip is to set up a Gmail account. Why? You ask! Once you have around 1000 new friends you will start to get quite a few emails. I use Gmail as it is fantastic for sorting emails using the Gmail filtering and label options. I will fill you in on these tips in a future post on Gmail.
But more about MySpace Friend Blaster Pro. My first opinion on upgrading on this software was that I just wasted $59.95 US! For some reason it would crash every time I tried to run a search on it. As it turned out, MySpace Friend Blaster uses Internet Explorer and I am a Mozilla Firefox man. I updated my Internet Explorer to a more recent version and I was back in business.
Initially I had the plan of using this software for the purpose of charging clients money to set up profiles for their business and get them plenty of targeted friends allowing more traffic to their business website.
Sounds good in theory, right?
Well, MySpace Friend Blaster threw a few curve balls at me that made me think twice about using this for business. The first attempt on a targeted keyword was "Scrapbooking". I then followed up with "Scrapbook" and then finally "Creative". Somehow the software managed to find a profile called "Pornstar Airlines", who graciously accepted my automated friend request and then proceeded to post porn on the MySpace activity stream.

Hmmm, first lesson.... Clients don't seem to like porn next to their business name! At least my client saw the funny side and the offender was removed from the friends list. So if you do go ahead and use the Friend Blaster software make sure you un-tick the "Add to friend updates and Activity Stream". |
Beware the Activity Stream! |
However, if you were promoting a band or yourself, this product can be excellent for getting your name out there. I had a few more goes with the software to give the best "warts and all" approach to a product review and found I was able to get around 400 extra friends in almost no time at all. I was even able to concentrate on other work while it did all the hard work!
Occasionally, you have to enter in a CAPTCHA code to send a friend request. This is an option set by the other person, not by MySpace as I incorrectly said in my previous post. Depending on your keyword, you may not have to fill in many CAPTCHA codes. I used the keyword "Celebrity" and only had to fill in 2 CAPCHA codes.
If you want thousands of MySpace friends then yeah, this software is for you. However, use it with caution.
